Concept

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Translational Heart Failure Research (LBI.HF) is an independent research organization. It was founded  in 2011 within the framework of the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft based on a competitive international evaluation of the research program.

The LBI.HF shares the concept of all new Ludwig Boltzmann institutes to closely co-operate with designated institutional partners. Specifically, the LBI.HF was designed to provide a common platform for scientists from academia (i.e. Medical University of Graz, Karl-Franzens University Graz), industrial research and development (Bayer HealthCare), applied scientists (Austrian Institute of Technology) and health care providers (KAGes, GKK). In practice, this co-operation involves the exchange of ideas, methodology and expertise within a common research strategy. The purpose is to adopt a truly interdisciplinary, interactive, and translational approach that combines basic research and clinical expertise to effectively assess pathomechanisms and new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in heart failure.
